[Basil can only imagine how Max must feel right now. Back when she was so hurt and needed to feed, she was forced to wait alone while Basil went out and hunted for her, on her behalf. He had to go out there and kill someone for her, regardless of whether or not he would have had to do it anyway, or if he'd already done it before. It meant that, for all of Basil's hunts thereafter, Max had helped him. She'd been there to support him.
How could he turn her away now, after all of that?
