[Finally...finally, Basil can't take it any longer. The guilt is weighing down on him so heavily he feels like he can't breathe. The presence, Something, is all around them now. There is only one way to escape this hell now, and it's too far away for Basil to reach.

[He breathes, exhaling on a shaking laugh as he draws away from Max. He doesn't move far enough that she won't still be able to hold onto him in some way if she'd like, but he's no longer curled up small against her, trying to keep himself hidden from the world. He leans back on his heels so he can look at her directly, and his eyes...they almost look red, in the light.
For the first time possibly ever, he looks scary, like this.]
Max...if you knew, you'd hate me. You'll hate me.
[The words don't spill from him frantic and unprompted, now. This is something he's apparently thought for a very long time.]
You'll hate me as much as I hate myself. And then...
[...]
Everyone will be gone, again.
[His parents. His friends. Sunny.
He'll be alone, in his room, with only Something to keep him company, urging him to finally put an end to his suffering.]
